Simply put, this is pain along the sciatic nerve – running from your lower back down the back of your leg. It can be one of the worst pains to experience. Common causes include low back dysfunction, muscle imbalances in the pelvis, bone spurs or disc herniations pressing on the nerve root, and even pregnancy. Each case is different, but maintenance of the lower back can prevent the disc and joint degeneration that often leads to this problem.
Your chiropractor is an expert in isolating the exact cause and providing conservative treatment. In the more extreme cases, referral for medical care or surgery may be an option. Fortunately, most cases respond well to a course of conservative treatment.
